The William and Mary Tribe baseball team had its three-game winning streak
snapped on Saturday afternoon, falling on the road to the Longwood Lancers,
7-0. With the loss, the Tribe's record
falls to 17-16 on the season while Longwood improves to 22-12 on the year.
Five different players recorded hits on the afternoon for
the College, led by Sean Aiken
and Jonathan Slattery
. Aiken had a double in the ninth inning for
the Tribe, while Slattery had a single and a stolen base. Also collecting hits on the afternoon were
Derrick Osteen
, Stephen Arcure
, and Chris Forsten
.
Out of the bullpen, senior Reid Killen
had another nice
outing, throwing three shutout innings for the Tribe, allowing just one hit
while striking out five.
After neither team was able to get on the board in the first
three innings, the Lancers would put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth,
capped by a two-run homer off the bat of Justin Lacy. Longwood added two more in the bottom of the
sixth to stake a 7-0 lead after six complete innings.
The Tribe had a few opportunities to push runs across but
was unable to get a timely hit. On the
day, the College left eight runners on base while Longwood left five men on.
The William and Mary Tribe baseball will continue its
weekend series with the Longwood Lancers on Sunday, April 10. First pitch at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg
is scheduled for 1 p.m.
