Tribe Falls in Overtime at Drexel, 80-74, Despite Career High 22 From Taylor Hilton

William and Mary senior Katy Oblinger (Altoona, Pa.) fired up a 28-foot shot at the buzzer in regulation that sent the Tribe women's basketball team into overtime at Drexel, but mounting fouls and free throw opportunities eventually took their toll and the Tribe fell on the road Thursday night, 80-74.  It was the fourth overtime game of this season and fifth overtime period for the College, both school-record numbers.

W&M was led by a career-night from sophomore Taylor Hilton (Washington, D.C.), who shot 8-12 and a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc to score 22 points.  Katherine DeHenzel (Bowie, Md.) shot 6-9 and 3-4 from deep for 15 points, and also tied her career high with seven assists.  Taysha Pye (Bronx, N.Y.) was the third player to reach double-digits, scoring 10 with a team-high five rebounds and two steals.  As a team, the Tribe shot a season-best 50% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc, hitting 10 of its 20 three-pointers.

Hot-shooting from deep saw Drexel get out in front by as many as 13 in the first half, but the Tribe patiently worked its offense and whittled the lead down to six at the halftime buzzer.  Coming out of the break, the College began to take over the game on both ends of the floor, beginning with back-to-back triples from Hilton and DeHenzel that cut the lead to two with 18:26 left in regulation.  The Dragons were able to push the lead back into double-digits over the next eight minutes, but two more threes, from Hilton and freshman Kaitlyn Mathieu (Waterboro, Maine) ignited a 13-4 run for the College that brought the lead down to three, 55-52 with 7:23 on the clock.

One of Jasmina Rosseel's six three-pointers ended the run with just over seven minutes remaining in regulation and the Tribe defense locked down after that, not allowing any field goals to the Dragons for the next 9:24 off the game clock.  Fouls began to pile up, however, and Kamile Nacickaite hit eight of 10 free throws over the final seven minutes of regulation for the home team.  In response, W&M scored 14 points in the same span, all from the field, and took the lead for the first time since the opening minute of the game on Hilton's third three of the night with 2:13 remaining, with the score 63-62 in favor of the Tribe.  Over the next few possessions, Nacickaite found her way to the line twice more and hit all four attempts, the last making the score 66-63 in favor of Drexel with 5.7 seconds left.  Coming down the floor, Oblinger was forced to pull up opposite the Tribe's coaching box with two defenders in her face, and raised up to loft a three just before the buzzer that drilled in perfectly and sent the game into extra time.

W&M's momentum carried into the first few minutes of overtime, as Oblinger hit another three, this one from straightaway, and Hilton knocked down her fourth in as many tries from the wing to make the lead four, 72-68 with 3:31 left.  Rosseel hit her sixth three with 2:19 remaining to put Drexel back on top, 73-72, and the Dragons were able to salt the game away at the line over the final two minutes.

William and Mary returns home on Sunday, hosting Georgia State at 1 p.m. in Kaplan Arena.
