WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary's Director of Speed, Strength and Conditioning,
John Sauer, was recently recognized for his 22 years of service to the Tribe's athletics program, as the College named its new training area in his honor at the conclusion of the annual football alumni banquet.
The
John Sauer Speed and Conditioning Room, located within the Montgomery Strength Training Center on the lower level of William and Mary Hall, is a 2,500-square foot training area that was brought on-line this spring and expands the Tribe's total training area to approximately 8,500-square feet.
Sauer was the featured speaker at the reunion dinner and after his remarks he was informed the room was named after him by a surprise presentation. Over 200 former players, as well as the College's President, Taylor Reveley III and Head Football Coach
Jimmye Laycock attended the event.
Sauer, who will be entering his 23rd season working with the Tribe program this coming fall, has developed a NSCA Strength and Conditioning All-American in each of the last 21 years. During the summer of 2005, Sauer was one of seven coaches nationwide recognized as a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach (MSCC). The title of MSCC is the highest honor that can be achieved as a strength and conditioning coach. It represents professionalism, knowledge, experience, expertise, as well as longevity in the field.
