In the first game of the doubleheader, the College took a commanding lead in the first inning and would not look back. The Green and Gold put up a seven-spot in the frame highlighted by two-run doubles off the bats of both sophomore
Tadd Bower and freshman
Derek Lowe. After the first frame, the Tribe held a 7-0 lead over the Bobcats.
Quinnipiac would attempt to answer the Tribe's offense with some of their own with runs in the third and fourth innings, cutting the lead to 7-2, but the College would add to their advantage in the following three frames.
In the bottom of the fourth, sophomore
Chris Forsten plated freshman
Ryan Brown with a sacrifice fly to center, making the Tribe lead 8-2.
In the fifth, senior
Chris Jensen led off the inning with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on an error. Jensen would take advantage of another Quinnipiac mistake, scoring on a wild pitch. Two batters later, with runners on first and second, freshman
John Sheehan singled home Bower, pushing the Tribe's lead to 10-2.
In the sixth, after a pair of walks and a hit by pitch, the bases were loaded for Sheehan, who singled home Bower with a shot to right field. After six full, the Tribe held a 11-2 lead over Quinnipiac.
On the mound, Farrell came out of the bullpen and had a great outing, going three shutout innings, striking out six while only surrendering two hits.
Despite the Bobcats tacking on a run in the eighth, the Tribe would win game one of the doubleheader, 11-4.
In the first game, Jensen and freshman
Derek Lowe each had two hits, while Arcure, Bower, and Lowe each had two RBIs.
In the second game, the Tribe's offense was a little slower out of the gates than it was in the first and the Bobcats took advantage, taking a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
In the third, after a lead off single from freshman
Jackson Shaver and a hit by pitch, Lowe successfully sacrificed to give the Tribe runners on second and third with one out. Once again the College would take advantage of a Quinnipiac mishap, scoring on an error by the third baseman to cut the lead to 3-1.
In the fourth, Forsten would begin the Green and Gold rally with a walk. Bower would follow with a double to out runners on second and third. Up to the plate stepped freshman
Ryan Williams, who brought home both runners with a game-tying single up the middle. After four innings, the game was tied 3-3.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Tribe would take the lead in the sixth. With runners on second and third with one out, sophomore
Sean Aiken came to the plate for the College. On a 1-0 count, the squeeze play was on with Aiken laying a bunt down the first base line, scoring a sprinting Bower from third, giving W&M a 4-3 lead.
Just like it did in the first game, W&M got a great effort out of its bullpen. Davenport continued his strong pitching of late, going 5.1 innings and striking out a career-high eight batters.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Tribe would bust the game open with four runs. With one run already home on a wild pitch, Sophomore
Stephen Arcure plated junior
Derrick Osteen with a single up the middle. Forsten then came to the plate and scored Arcure with a single to right field, giving the College a 6-3 lead. One batter later, Williams would bring across another run with a double to right, bringing home Forsten to push the lead for the College to 8-3.
The Tribe would tack on two runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Bower to push its winning margin to 10-3 over the Bobcats.
