The William and Mary men's cross country team eased to the win Friday evening at the Spider Alumni Open, scoring 17 points with four men in the overall top six. The Tribe out-paced Richmond with 42 points, as well as Christopher Newport at 73.

Trevor Sleight (Asheville, N.C.) took the overall win, his first in cross country and second overall, in a time of 15:05. That was a 35-spot improvement from his finish in this race last year for the defending CAA Rookie of the Year. Junior
Ryan Gousse (Apopka, Fla.) also made a huge jump, up 33 spots to finish second overall in 15:08. Sophomore

Nathaniel Hermsmeier (Charlottesville, Va.) took fifth and sixth, respectively, in a blanket finish with a time of 15:10 on the clock. Redshirt-freshman

Jacob Sears (Cary, N.C.) and
Nick Tyrey (Raleigh, N.C.) completed the varsity seven in 15th (15:35) and 17th (15:38).
William and Mary has next weekend off, before hosting the 56th Annual W&M Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13.
