BOSTON, MA - Senior
Jacob Frey (Oakton, VA), sophomore
Jason Schoener (Grand Blanc, MI) and senior
Chris Parsons (Dunkirk, MD) all captured All-East honors today as defending CAA Champion William and Mary men's track and field competed on the final day of the Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association of America (IC4A) Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Boston University. The elite field included individual qualifiers from more than 50 schools across the eastern seaboard. Manhattan College won the championship with 60 points, ahead of runner-up Connecticut (55) and third-place Seton Hall (47). The Tribe scored five points throughout the meet to tie Columbia and Brown for 42nd.
Two of the College's All-East performances, which are awarded to the top-eight finishers in each event, came in the same race, the 5,000m, as Frey and Schoener both qualified for competition. Frey led the squad, clocking a strong 14:22.09 for sixth place to capture All-East acclaim. The pace was a new personal record for Frey by some five seconds and bested his previous season-best time by 14 seconds. Schoener claimed All-East honors by taking eighth in the race, running a sparkling 14:25.27, a stunning 23 seconds better than his former personal and season-best time.
Parsons, competing in the shot, threw for 53'0.75", more than a foot farther than his previous best this season, for his All-East honor. The performance landed Parsons in eighth place and was just under a foot from a career-best mark.
The IC4As conclude the indoor season for William and Mary men's track and field. The team will take a week off before kicking off the outdoor season at Virginia Commonwealth's Ram Invitational on March 19-20 in Richmond, VA.
