Describe what it has
meant to be a team captain (part of the leadership council) this season.
Being a team captain has given me a drive to be a positive
role model for my teammates both inside the gym and outside of it. I try to provide as much motivation,
encouragement, and support for my teammates as I can. I lead by example by displaying enthusiasm
and love for the sport.
After competing
primarily on bars, beam and floor during your first two seasons, describe what
it's been like competing as an all-arounder during the past two seasons.
Honestly, not much has changed. I try to take one event at a time and focus
on the event that I'm on.
Talk about the team's
approach as the regular season winds down and the ECAC and USAG championships
near.
We are doing everything we can to make a comeback. We have been meeting with our sports psychologist
and making some changes to our assignments at practice. We have been working extra hard in the gym
and everyone seems more confident in this point of the season, so hopefully it
pays off soon!
What is your most
memorable moment with the W&M gymnastics team?
ECAC's last year! We had so much fun, yet we were still able
to focus and pull together after a rough start.
Everyone was so focused on the team and just enjoying every moment of
the meet. I specifically remember
laughing the entire time during our bar warm ups.
What is your favorite
event and why?
Bars is my favorite event to practice. Most people think this is weird, but I
actually love doing bar routines and never get tired of them. Floor is my favorite event to compete because
I love to perform and throw in some improvisational dance moves.
What is your least
favorite event and why?
Vault, because it is over way too fast.
What has been your
proudest moment competing in gymnastics?
Last year at ECAC's we placed second as a team, and I placed
third all-around and second on bars.
What is the best
advice you've ever received?
My parents both always remind me not to worry too much about
the future and live life day by day and enjoy every moment.
Of all your teammates,
past and present, who have you learned the most from and why?
A past teammate, Lauren Jackson taught me a lot about
competing with confidence and taking one event at a time. She also taught me the lip gloss dance! As
for current teammates, I have honestly learned so much from each of our five
freshmen in different ways.
What does Tribe Pride
mean to you?
Tribe Pride means putting my team first in every way
possible and always being there for my teammates. It means cheering for everyone until I lose
my voice.
Do you have any
pre-meet rituals or superstitions?
I used to be really superstitious with my gymnastics when I
was younger, but in college I have realized that wearing my hair curly or
straight for a meet can have absolutely no effect on my gymnastics. However, I do like to visualize before each
routine, have Lindsey dance for me before my beam routine, and wear tons of
glitter.
Who has had the
biggest impact on your gymnastics career?
My sister Megan is the reason I started gymnastics and she
is my number one fan!
What do you enjoy
doing most other than gymnastics?
Dancing, running, and going to Berry Body Frozen Yogurt.
What is something
interesting about you that few people know?
I was in a Miss Teen New Jersey pageant when I was 14.
What is your favorite
spot on Campus?
The caf, even though I no longer have a meal plan. The few
times I go to the caf with my teammates are always 100% enjoyable. Even if the
food isn't the best, we always have a great time.
What has been your
favorite road trip while competing at W&M?
I can't remember where we were coming back from, but the bus
ride when we played the "1,2,3 pose" game and this song game my sophomore year
was the most fun...except I don't think Mary enjoyed our singing.
What do you think
you'll miss most about your experience with gymnastics at W&M after you
graduate?
Definitely my teammates...it's going to be really hard to say
goodbye.
After you complete
your collegiate gymnastics career, what would you like to do?
I haven't fully decided yet, but I think I will be attending
graduate school in the fall to get my master's in higher education
administration. With this, I would love
to become a director of academic support for college athletes.
