WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary field hockey hosts its first home match of the season on Friday as it takes on Longwood in non-conference action at Busch Field. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
On Sunday, the Tribe hosts Senior Day against VCU at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early for the senior day ceremony.

CLEAR BAG POLICY
Furthering its commitment to a first class and secure environment at home athletic events, William & Mary will implement the use of walk-through metal detectors at the entrances to athletic venues (both ticketed and non-ticketed events) beginning in the fall of 2025. This enhanced security method mirrors standard practice at most major professional and intercollegiate athletic events throughout the country and compliments the Clear Bag Policy already in place. Fans will proceed through metal detectors prior to having their tickets scanned or entering a venue for non-tickets events. Entrants will not need to remove items such as belts, cell phones, coins, jackets, jewelry, watches, wallets, shoes or other small objects. If additional screening is necessary, security staff will ask the individual to proceed to a secondary screening area, where they will be asked to divest themselves of certain items and pass through again until clear.

LEAGUE RECOGNITION
Senior forward
Josie Mae Gruendel was named to the Preseason All-CAA Field Hockey team as an honorable mention selection. Gruendel started all 17 games for the Tribe last year, scoring four goals with one assists and nine points en route to earning Second Team All-CAA honors. She paced W&M with 11 shots on goal, connecting at a .733 clip.
NEW FACES AND OLD
W&M brings in six freshmen this season along with a pair of transfers in
Kate Longo (Indiana) and
Caitlin Wong (Boston University). Twenty players return from last year's squad, including junior midfielder
Anya Green, who scored two goals in the season-ending win over La Salle.

Alexandra de Jesus, and defender
Mackinzie Brown.
BACK FOR ANOTHER GO
Head coach
Tess Ellis returns for her 14th season at the helm of Tribe field hockey. Since being promoted to head coach prior to the 2013 season, Ellis has won CAA Coach of the Year four times and guided the Tribe to a pair of league championships in 2018 and 2023. The Australian begins her 32nd season at W&M this fall after serving four stints with the Tribe since 1993. Her next win will be her 100th victory as Tribe head coach.
SCOUTING THE LANCERS
Longwood opened its season with a 3-1 loss to Queens at home on Aug. 30. The Lancers won last year's matchup in Farmville 1-0.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
VCU is 1-1 on the season with a season-opening loss to No. 1-ranked Northwestern 2-0 and an overtime win vs. Kent State last weekend. The Tribe has dominated the all-time series 57-14, though the Rams have won the last two contests.
