RICHMOND, Va. — Senior Josie Mae Gruendel was named to the Preseason All-CAA Field Hockey team as an honorable mention selection, the league office announced Thursday afternoon. The league's preseason poll and awards were voted on by the conference's seven field hockey head coaches.

Gruendel started all 17 games a season ago, leading the Tribe with four goals and nine points. She tallied 15 shots, including 11 on goal, and posted the game-winning marker in the final minute of a 2-1 victory over Lafayette on Sep. 7.

The Matthews, N.C. native earned Second Team All-CAA honors. She has played in 52 career games with the Green & Gold, totaling six goals and 14 points.

The Tribe opens its season on Friday, Aug. 28 against Duke.
