Baseball Topped by Duke on Tuesday, 14-9

DURHAM, N.C. — The Duke Blue Devils used four home runs to down William & Mary 12-5 on Tuesday evening at Jack Coombs Field.

After Duke (24-28) scored the opening run in the first inning, W&M (21-29) responded in the top of the third with an RBI single by Corey Adams.

A grand slam by the Blue Devils' RJ Hamilton broke the game open in the third inning, part of a six-run frame as Duke went ahead 7-1.

The Tribe clawed back, plating three runs in the fifth. Sam Kaczmarek drove in a run with a fielder's choice groundout while Adams came home to score on a Duke throwing error. An RBI groundout by Louie Bartletti cut the lead to 8-4.

After Duke got one back in the bottom of the fifth, Chase Ecker singled home a run in the sixth for an RBI to make it 9-5. That was as close as the visitors got, as a three-run homer by Michael DiMartini put the game out of reach.

Charlie Iriotakis would add an RBI single in the seventh. In the eighth, Jamie Laskofski went deep for his 11th home run of the season. Iriotakis would add to his stat line with an RBI triple in the ninth, though the Tribe's rally fell short.

Roman DiGiacomo was the winning pitcher for Duke. Tom Bourque took the loss for W&M.

STAT NUGGETS
  • Adams recorded his first RBI of the season in a 2-for-3 day.
  • Iriotakis was 3-for-3 with a pair of triples and two runs.
