Baseball Drops Wild One at Richmond, 12-11

RICHMOND, Va. — William & Mary baseball dropped a heartbreaker on Tuesday afternoon at Pitt Field, falling in a barburner to Richmond by a 12-11 final.

W&M (16-23) hit three home runs and racked up 14 hits in the loss, but was unable to hold on to a late five-run lead. Richmond (23-18) scored seven runs over the final two innings to seal the victory.

The Tribe struck first with two runs in the second inning, including an RBI double by Kevin Francella. The sophomore went 3-for-4 with three RBI on the day, blasting a two-run homer in the seventh.

After Richmond went ahead 5-2 after the fourth inning, Matthew Kosuda responded with a two-run blast that cut the deficit to 5-4. The visitors tied the game in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Jamie Laskofski.

In the seventh, the Tribe bursted through for five runs, started by an RBI double off the bat of Louie Bartletti. Anthony Greco then went yard for a two-run shot before Francella's homer extended the lead to 10-5.

The Spiders had the answer, plating four in the bottom of the seventh and three more in the eighth. Kosuda added an RBI single in the eighth inning for insurance but it was not enough.

Evan Wilson earned the win for Richmond, going 1 ⅔ innings. Chayse Gruber locked down the save in the ninth. Noah Hertzler was charged with the loss for the Tribe.
