Baseball Posts Run-Rule Victory Over Elon, 13-1

ELON, N.C. — Dominating in all three phases of the game, William & Mary racked up 16 hits in a 13-1 run-rule victory over Elon on Saturday afternoon at Latham Park.

The Tribe (14-19, 6-8 CAA) was buoyed by its pitching staff, which held the Phoenix to just three hits on the afternoon behind a defense that committed no errors. Starting pitcher Zack Potts tossed three scoreless innings, retiring nine of the 11 batters he faced without allowing a base knock.

W&M took the lead in the first on an RBI single from Matthew Kosuda. In the fourth, the visitors plated four runs for a 5-0 lead. After Charlie Iriotakis scored on an error, Justin Summers recorded a sacrifice fly to drive in another run. Anthony Greco then cleared the bases with a two-run homer.

In the top of the fifth, Sam Kaczmarek drove in the first of his two RBI when he doubled down the left field line to plate Iriotakis for a 6-0 lead.

Charlie Richwine made quick work of Elon (13-21, 5-12), pitching three shutout innings from the fourth to the sixth. A lone double in the sixth inning was his only blemish.

The Tribe broke the game open with seven runs in the seventh inning. Kaczmarek had an RBI single, part of a three-hit day. Justin Summers also recorded his first career RBI with a run-scoring base knock.

Louie Bartletti then drove in a pair of runs with a triple before a two-run single by Chase Ecker made it a 13-0 game.

Potts was the winning pitcher while Elon's Owen Winebarger took the loss.
