Offenses Strikes for 12 Runs in Sweep of Lafayette

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary baseball capped off a dominant weekend sweep as it pounded out a dozen hits in a 12-5 win over Lafayette on Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park.

The Tribe (5-4) posted four runs in the first inning for the second game in a row. The scoring started with an RBI single from Matthew Kosuda. After Trey Christman stole home on a double-steal, Chase Ecker and Witt Scafidi added RBI base hits to make it a 4-0 game.

Louie Bartletti added an RBI groundout in the bottom of the second before Christman scored on a wild pitch as the Tribe went ahead 6-1.

Tom Bourque went 2 ⅔ innings on the mound, striking out four batters and allowing two runs. Jack Weight came on in the third and worked out of a bases-loaded jam, getting a strikeout to end the frame.

Scafidi had a productive day at the plate, driving in three runs. He added another RBI single in the third and would later hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to extend W&M's lead to 9-4.

Weight set down Lafayette (0-7) in order in the sixth. In the bottom of the inning, Chavez drove in Kosuda with a single as the Tribe extended its advantage, 12-4.

Noah Hertzler took the ball in the seventh and recorded two strikeouts. The senior right-hander delivered two scoreless innings, striking out four. Daniel Lingle closed the game on the mound, getting two punchouts to seal the win.
