Two Freshman Records Broken at Penn Classic

PHILADELPHIA — Amelia Bawcombe and Uriah Harris both set new freshman records in the weight throw to lead William & Mary track and field at the Penn Classic over the weekend. The Tribe broke several new top-10 performances during the action.

DAY ONE
The Tribe saw another pair of freshman records go down in the weight throw on Friday.

In the women's weight throw, Amelia Bawcombe placed second with a throw of 18.75m (61' 6.25"), setting a new personal best and posting the No. 2 mark in school history. Talia Anderson finished in fourth, hurling the ball a distance of 18.00m (59' 0.75").

On the men's side, Uriah Harris broke the W&M rookie mark with a throw of 18.53m (60' 9.5"), placing him seventh all-time as he finished runner-up in the event.

Harris would also place fifth in the shot put with a mark of 17.29m (56' 8.75").

Continuing in the field events, Tia Taylor had the third-best performance in program history in the long jump, leaping 5.90m (19' 4.25") as she came in third. The graduate student also registered a top-10 in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.82.

Kalli Knott secured the No. 5 all-time performance in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.96m (12' 11.75"). Knott finished fifth place in front of Raina Fitzwater, who posted a vault of 3.66m (12').

The Green & Gold had a top-10 performance in the 60m hurdles from Brian Walsh. The junior posted a time of 8.82 in the prelims to qualify for the finals, where he clocked in at 8.31 for the fifth-fastest performance in school history.

DAY TWO
Jonathan Kumer secured the Tribe's only event victory in the 800m, finishing in 1:51.07 to pace the field. Freshman Colby Twyman followed behind him with a second-place finish of 1:52.75.

In the 3000m, Hayes Trapp delivered a standout performance with a personal-best time of 8:06.52. That vaults him up to sixth all-time in program history.

Rookie Nolan Yagle showed out well in the mile run, placing fourth with a time of 4:13.01. Avery Glidden also took fourth in the 400m, clocking in at 57.78.

UP NEXT
W&M will compete at the Darius Dixon Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. on Feb. 13-14 in the final meet before the CAA Championships later in February.
