Tribe Drops Doubleheader to Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. — William & Mary dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Virginia Tech, falling 8-7 on a walk-off in game one before dropping the second game 8-2.

GAME ONE
In a back-and-forth affair, the Tribe (0-3) fell in a heartbreaker in game one as the Hokies walked it off in the ninth inning.

Jamie Laskofski started the scoring with a three-run homer in the fifth inning that put W&M ahead 3-0. Laskofski was 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and eight total bases.

Virginia Tech (3-0) responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.

In the seventh, Trey Christman gave the visitors the lead back with an RBI single that drove in Laskofski. However, Tech responded with a three-RBI double from Hudson Lutterman that put Tech ahead 6-4.

W&M fought back in the ninth. After Laskofski led off with a double, Christman tied the game with a two-run homer to left field. Louie Bartletti then drew a walk and later came around to score on an infield single by Connor Chavez, giving W&M a 7-6 edge.

The Hokies loaded the bases with one out in the ninth before winning the contest on a walk-off by Sam Grube. Luke Craytor was the pitcher of record for Tech while Connor Jernigan took the loss for the Tribe.

W&M starter Jack Pye went three scoreless innings in his collegiate debut, striking out a pair. On offense, Christman was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Matthew Kosuda had a pair of hits, going 2-for-3.

GAME TWO
In the first inning, W&M got on the board after a leadoff walk to Laskofski before Bartletti drove in the game's first run on an RBI double.

Virginia Tech answered quickly with a three-spot in the bottom of the first, including a two-run homer by Owen Petrich. The Hokies tacked on another run in the second before adding four more in the sixth thanks to four walks.

The Tribe's offense was held in check until the eighth when Bartletti produced another run, this time on a single to plate Laskofski. Bartletti went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

Noah Hertzler delivered two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out three batters. Freshman Stephen Christopher tossed a shutout frame in the seventh.

Charlie Richwine took the loss for W&M while Virginia Tech's Ben Weber earned the win.
