WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After posting a tremendous performance in the William & Mary football team's victory against Maine at Zable Stadium, linebacker
Luke Banbury was selected as the
CAA Defensive Player of the Week.
En route to helping lead W&M to the 28-27 conference-opening win versus the Black Bears, Banbury recorded a career-high 16 tackles and three pass breakups. His 16 tackles are the most by a player in the CAA this season, while his final PBU late in the fourth quarter led to
Jalen Jones' interception that helped seal the Tribe's victory.
The Pittsburgh, Pa., native currently ranks third nationally in tackles (30) and tackles per game (15.0), while he ranks tied for first in the country with four pass breakups.
A graduate transfer from Cornell, Banbury was a preseason All-America selection this fall after earning first-team All-Ivy League distinction in 2024 when he totaled a conference-leading 87 tackles.
The Tribe will return to its non-conference slate when it plays at Virginia this Saturday at noon. The game will be televised on ACC Network.
