Clear Bag Policy and Metal Detectors at Zable Stadium in 2025
Furthering its commitment to a first class and secure environment at home athletic events, William & Mary will implement the use of walk-through metal detectors at the entrances to athletic venues (both ticketed and non-ticketed events) beginning in the fall of 2025. This enhanced security method mirrors standard practice at most major professional and intercollegiate athletic events throughout the country and compliments the
Clear Bag Policy already in place. Fans will proceed through metal detectors prior to having their tickets scanned or entering a venue for non-tickets events. Entrants will not need to remove items such as belts, cell phones, coins, jackets, jewelry, watches, wallets, shoes or other small objects. If additional screening is necessary, security staff will ask the individual to proceed to a secondary screening area, where they will be asked to divest themselves of certain items and pass through again until clear.
W&M opened its 2025 campaign with a narrow 23-21 setback at Furman last Saturday. The Tribe led 21-14 late in the third quarter, but FU closed the game with three field goals to secure the non-conference win. W&M outgained the Paladins, 352-237, and owned advantages on the ground, 144-58, and through the air, 208-179. Making just his second career start, quarterback
Tyler Hughes completed 19-of-31 passes for 208 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 57 yards on 15 carries with a score. Defensively, linebacker
Luke Banbury totaled a career-high 14 tackles with a fumble recovery and PBU, while linebacker
Harrison Johnson added a career-best 13 stops.
Picked ninth in the CAA preseason poll, Maine opened the season with a 28-7 loss at Liberty last weekend. The contest was knotted at 7-7 in the fourth quarter before the Flames closed the game with three unanswered touchdowns. Sincere Baines led the Black Bears with 118 rushing yards on 11 carries with a touchdown, while Christian Thomas posted a team-high 15 tackles.
Saturday's contest at Maine will mark the 18th meeting between the two schools, as W&M owns a 9-8 edge in the all-time series. The Tribe won the first five meetings versus the Black Bears before Maine earned its first victory in the series in 2002. Although UM has won six of the last eight matchups, W&M earned a 28-3 triumph in the most recent meeting at Zable Stadium in 2023.
