Clear Bag Policy and Metal Detectors at Zable Stadium in 2025
Furthering its commitment to a first class and secure environment at home athletic events, William & Mary will implement the use of walk-through metal detectors at the entrances to athletic venues (both ticketed and non-ticketed events) beginning in the fall of 2025. This enhanced security method mirrors standard practice at most major professional and intercollegiate athletic events throughout the country and compliments the
Clear Bag Policy already in place. Fans will proceed through metal detectors prior to having their tickets scanned or entering a venue for non-tickets events. Entrants will not need to remove items such as belts, cell phones, coins, jackets, jewelry, watches, wallets, shoes or other small objects. If additional screening is necessary, security staff will ask the individual to proceed to a secondary screening area, where they will be asked to divest themselves of certain items and pass through again until clear.
After earning a 34-7 victory against Charleston Southern last weekend, W&M enters Saturday's game with a 2-2 record overall and a 1-0 mark in conference play. The Tribe posted an impressive effort on both sides of the ball in the win versus CSU, as it piled up 449 yards of total offense and limited the Buccaneers to just one score and 239 total yards. Quarterback
Tyler Hughes led Tribe and threw for a career-high 296 yards with four touchdowns and now ranks second in the CAA and 19th nationally in passing efficiency (158.7). Defensively, linebacker
Luke Banbury leads the CAA and ranks fourth nationally in tackles per game (12.5). W&M currently ranks second nationally in fewest turnovers per game (1), while it has forced a turnover in 14 straight games dating back to last season – which is the longest active streak in the FCS.
Villanova opened its season with a 24-17 victory against Colgate but has dropped its last two contests on the road at Penn State and Monmouth. Although the Wildcats rank near the top of the CAA in total yards per game (364.3), they rank second to last in total defense (484.0). Quarterback Pa McQuaide is averaging 219.7 passing yards per game, while running back David Avit ranks fifth in the CAA in rushing (79.0). Linebacker Shane Hartzell has totaled a team-high 24 tackles.
Saturday's game will mark the 38th meeting between W&M and Villanova, as the Tribe owns an 20-16-1 all-time record against the Wildcats. After losing six consecutive contests to VU from 2005-09, W&M has won six of the last nine matchups. W&M won the most recent meeting, 45-12, in 2022, while it earned a 31-18 victory in its last visit to Villanova in 2021.
