Matteus Case Signs Professional Deal in Portugal

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Recent William & Mary graduate Matteus Case signed a professional contract with Vitória S.C. in Portugal.
 
Case was a key fixture with the Tribe over his three seasons. He started 31 of his 90 career appearances and averaged 6.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
 
As a senior in 2024-25, Case enjoyed his best season, averaging 8.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. He started the final 14 games of the season and ended the year shooting 46% from the field and 73.5% from the free throw line.
 
Case scored a career-high 19 points on two occasions as a senior, including a home win over Drexel on Feb. 15. The 6-5 guard tallied 18 points on a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor and had two huge conventional 3-point plays down the stretch to lift W&M to a road win at Hampton on Jan. 16. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from W&M in May.
 
Vitória S.C. is based in the city of Guimarães and plays in the Betclic League, the top league in Portugal. The organization won the Pro Liga Championship, Portugal's second division, in 2006-07. Vitória S.C. also captured the Portuguese Cup in 2007-08 and 2012-13 and won the Antonio Pratas Trophy in 2009-10. They finished last season at 9-15, but did earn a spot in the Betclic League playoffs.
 
Case becomes the 33rd former Tribe player to sign professionally and second this season, along with Caleb Dorsey. He is the third to ink a deal in Portugal, joining Sherman Rivers '03 with Academica de Coimbra (Proliga) in 2007-08 and Marcus Thornton '15 with Benfica (Liga Betclic) last season. Last season, eight former Tribe standouts that played professionally in overseas, including Miguel Ayesa (Rioverde Clavija in Spain), David Cohn (Tigers Tübingen in Germany), Nathan Knight (Zhejiang Guangsha Lions in China), Matt Milon (GTK Gliwice in Poland), Anders Nelson (Constanta in Romania), Terry Tarpey (AS Monaco in France), Marcus Thornton (Lavrio in Greece), and Andy Van Vliet (BCM Gravelines Dunkerque in France).
