WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— William & Mary women's basketball head coach,
Erin Dickerson Davis, announced staff promotions for
Dane Sparrow and
Kenia Cole on Thursday ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Sparrow, who's entering his fourth season with the Tribe, will be elevated from assistant coach to associate head coach, while Cole adds director of recruiting to go along with her role as an assistant. She enters her fifth year on the sidelines at W&M.
The Tribe is coming off a historic season in 2024-25 that culminated in the first CAA title and trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history under Sparrow and Cole's guidance. The two years prior the Tribe won 12 conference games in each season, tying the program record for CAA wins in a year, with their help on the bench.
The duo has combined to coach six All-CAA selections, three CAA All-Tournament Team selections during their tenure at W&M.
During Sparrow's time in Williamsburg, he has focused on working with the program's post players, helping guide
Nylah Young to an All-CAA first team selection in 2023-24 as she finished second in the conference in scoring.
"I'm happy to announce the promotion of
Dane Sparrow to Associate Head Coach," said Davis. "His knowledge, experience, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of our program has made a lasting impact on our team culture and success. This title reflects the value he brings every day both on and off the court. We are fortunate to still have him and I'm excited to see how he blossoms in this new role. "
Sparrow joined the Tribe after a long stint at Wake Forest where he served multiple roles-assistant coach (2016-22), director of basketball operations (2014-16) and video coordinator (2013). Highlighting Sparrow's tenure in Winston-Salem was a trip to the 2021 NCAA Tournament, as he helped lead the ninth-seeded Demon Deacons to the program's first tournament bid in 31 years. He coached four All-ACC standouts at Wake.
Cole arrived to William & Mary prior to the 2021-22 season and was retained by Davis when she took over the program in 2022-23. She was selected as a WBCA Third-Under-30 honoree three times, an honor focusing on up-and-coming coaches in women's basketball, and now will officially head up W&M's recruiting efforts.
"I'm filled with excitement to announce the promotion of
Kenia Cole to Assistant Coach and Director of Recruiting," shared Davis. "Her creativity and outstanding ability to connect and build genuine relationships has been instrumental in elevating our recruiting efforts. She is excellent at recognizing potential and helping young women reach their goals- that makes her a perfect fit. I can't wait to see how she grows as a leader with this new role."
Prior to joining the Tribe, Cole spent two years on staff at Hampton, her alma mater. During her first season at Hampton, the Pirates finished third in the Big South with a 14-6 record. Cole helped bring a defensive intensity to Hampton as the Pirates finished among the nation's best in defensive points per game and turnovers forced in the 2020-21 season.
During her time as a player with the Pirates, Cole was a staple in the backcourt, helping Hampton to four MEAC regular season titles and three trips to the NCAA Tournament prior to her graduation in 2015.
