W&M Takes on VMI in Peninsula Classic

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary baseball will square off against in-state rival VMI as part of the Peninsula Classic at Hampton's War Memorial Stadium on Wednesday evening. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Tribe swept Stony Brook over the weekend, winning a pair of 8-6 ballgames surrounding by a 15-0 run-rule victory on Saturday. W&M won the Friday opener after trailing by six runs in the first inning, and proceeded to score 23 combined unanswered runs through Saturday's game.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
William & Mary had a pair of freshmen earn CAA recognition this week. RHP Zach Boyd was named the CAA Pitccher of the Week after tossing a complete-game shutout on Saturday, going seven inning with three hits, no walks, and five strikeouts. It was the first complete game by a W&M pitcher since 2019, and the first shutout since J.T. Castner did so on March 27, 2013 against Norfolk State. For the week, Boyd went eight scoreless innings with a 6-0 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a .111 BAA.

INF Jamie Laskofski also earned his second straight CAA Rookie of the Week honor after hitting .533 (8-for-15) with six runs, eight RBI, and a home run. The Burke, Va. native hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning of Sunday's come-from-behind win over Stony Brook as he collected a career-high four RBI. Laskofski is now riding an eight-game hitting streak over which he is batting .517 (15-for-29).

It was his third Rookie of the Week honor this season, the most in the conference. Laskofski paces all CAA freshmen in average (.354), runs (47), and stolen bases (10).

29, GOING ON...
OF Ben Parker extended his hitting streak to 29 games over the weekend, continuing the longest streak in the CAA this year. That included a grand slam in the game two win, part of a 3-for-4 day with five RBI for the Los Altos, Calif. native. The graduate student ranks top-10 in the nation in doubles (20) and hits (75), while also leading the CAA in batting average (.410), runs (57), and total bases (125). Parker is three games away from tying Ben Guez's modern-era program record for longest hitting streak at 32 games.

HITS GALORE
The Tribe has posted eight straight games with 10+ hits. As a team, W&M is batting at a .321 clip, which ranks seventh in the nation and by far the best in the CAA.

LEFTY POP
OF Lucas Carmichael continued his unprecedented power surge with home runs in all three games against Stony Brook. Carmichael has 11 round-trippers in his last 21 games dating back to March 22. The Chester, Va. product ranks third in the CAA in batting (.384), second in hits (71), third in total bases (115), and seventh in slugging (.622). His eight home runs in CAA play is second-most, trailing Stony Brook's Nico Azpilcueta (nine).

IRON MAN
RHP Daniel Lingle ranks third in Division I with 23 appearances. He registered a pair of scoreless outings against Stony Brook, lowering his ERA to 5.93, second-best on the squad. Since March 28, the sophomore has a 2.45 ERA over 14.2 innings with a .234 BAA.

CARDIAC TRIBE
W&M has 14 come-from-behind wins this year out of their 18 total victories. The Tribe has won five games in which they trailed by at least four runs, in addition to three walk-off victories.

STAT NUGGETS
  • W&M paces the CAA in batting average (.321), on-base percentage (.405), runs per game (7.8), slugging percentage (.484), and triples (13).
  • In addition to his hitting streak, Parker has gotten on base in 30 straight games, while Carmichael has reached base safely in 29 straight.
  • Carmichael also has a four-game multi-hit streak.
  • OF Christian Rush has a six-game hitting streak.
  • UTL Derek Holmes has 12 hits in his last five games.
  • C Charlie Felmlee posted a career-high three hits on Sunday, going 3-for-4. The sophomore backstop has five hits in last two contests.
  • W&M has not committed an error in its last two games. Since April 18, the Tribe has a team fielding percentage of .976.
  • The Tribe's six-game winning streak is its longest since March 13-22, 2024 when they won seven straight. The five-game conference win streak is the longest since May 1-21, 2022.

MILESTONE TRACKER
  • Parker recorded his 200th career RBI in Friday's win over the Seawolves. He also played in his 100th career game in the Green & Gold uniform.

SERIES HISTORY
W&M has played VMI 145 times, the third-most among any opponent in the program's history, and holds a 89-56 lead in the series. VMI won last year's matchup in Williamsburg 14-5, though the Tribe has won three of the last four.
