Baseball Visits Kansas State This Weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The William & Mary baseball team will visit Kansas State in the first meeting between the two programs this weekend. The action will get underway at 4 p.m. ET on Friday, followed by a 5 p.m. start on Saturday and noon Sunday. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
The Tribe was overpowered by No. 9 Virginia in their midweek game, falling 15-4 after a 10-run third inning. OF Ben Parker had an RBI triple while seven different W&M players recorded a hit. In a bright spot, the Tribe got scoreless outings from a pair of relievers in Darren Osborne (1.1 IP) and Tyler Kelly (2.0 IP).

PUNCHOUTS
RHP Carter Lovasz has feasted on the K, recording seven punchouts in each of his three appearances so far. Over half of his outs are coming via strikoeut, while his 14.2 K/9 ranks 34th in Division I.

PLAYING LIKE A VET
INF Jamie Laskofski extended his hitting streak to four games with a single against the Cavaliers. The freshman had a career-day against Penn State on Sunday, going 4-for-5 with two runs and setting a career-high in hits. Laskofski ranks second on the Tribe in runs (14) and first in stolen bases (four).

LIVING UP THE NAME
RHP Owen Pierce has posted a 0.79 ERA through 11.1 innings so far. The Preseason NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List honoree has a .150 opponents' batting average and a 18/9 K/BB ratio.

ON-BASE MACHINE
With two walks against UVA, INF Anthony Greco continues his 12-game on-base streak to start the season. 

CONFERENCE LEADERBOARDS
The Tribe has numerous players that rank atop the statistical leaderboards in the CAA.
  • OF Christian Rush is tied for the league lead in RBI (16) and ranks top-100 nationally.
  • OF Lucas Carmichael has the most hits (18). He enters the weekend on a five-game hitting streak.
  • Parker has scored the most runs (16).
  • On the mound, Lovasz has posted the second-most strikeouts (21) and K/9 (14.18).
STAT NUGGETS
  • W&M continues to lead the CAA in batting average (.315) and slugging (.439), while ranking second in scoring (7.7 runs per game).
  • They also have the most triples with six, good for 15th in the country.
  • Against UVA, the Tribe did not commit an error for the first time all season.

DEBUT IN THE SUNFLOWER STATE
In addition to being the first-ever meeting between the two schools, this series marks the first time William & Mary baseball has ever played in Kansas. It's the furthest west the Tribe has played a game since a west coast trip to San Diego and Cal State Northridge in 2016.
