WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The William & Mary baseball team will host the annual Central Virginia Classic this weekend as they welcome Boston College, Toledo, and Penn State to Plumeri Park. The Tribe will kick off the weekend on Friday against BC (4 p.m.), then welcome Toledo on Saturday (4 p.m.) followed by the finale on Sunday against Penn State (1 p.m.).

Live audio for all games will be provided on the Tribe Sports Network.

LAST TIME OUT
W&M suffered a 12-1 defeat at George Mason on Tuesday. INF Anthony Greco drove in the Tribe's lone run with an RBI triple in the first. The visitors were held to four hits and committed four errors that led to three unearned GMU runs.

ALL STREAKS COME TO AN END
OF Ben Parker saw his seven-game hitting streak to begin the year come to an end on Tuesday against GMU. Parker is still batting .429 with a .556 on-base percentage, while his 11 runs ranks second in the CAA and 81st nationally.

LATE-INNING MAGIC
OF Lucas Carmichael was the hero in Saturday's opener against Marist, delivering a walk-off RBI double to lift W&M to a 5-4 win. The Tribe won game two by a 9-6 final. In both contests, W&M erased a deficit of three-runs, outscoring Marist 12-2 from the sixth inning on. It was W&M's first walk-off victory nearly a year to the day since their last one on Feb. 23, 2024 against UMass Lowell.

BACK TO FORM
RHP Carter Lovasz returned to his old form, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings and tying a career-high with seven strikeouts on Saturday to earn the win. The Preseason All-CAA selection issued no walks and allowed three hits in 17 at-bats.

RHP Owen Pierce was also dominant in the nightcap, recording a nine-out save and striking out six.

STILL ON TOP
As of Thursday, the Tribe leads the CAA in batting average (.311), slugging percentage (.472), and scoring (8.6 runs per game).

CENTRAL VIRGINIA CLASSIC
This weekend's tournament features five teams playing two different cities. VCU and Richmond will also host contests in the Classic, along with the Tribe. The games against BC and Penn State are the first of seven matchups the Tribe will play against Power Four opponents this season.

SERIES HISTORY
  • This will be W&M's first ever game against Toledo.
  • The Tribe has dropped two straight to Boston College, including a 9-7 decision in last year's CVC. The previous meeting was in 2001. BC leads the all-time series 7-3-1.
  • Penn State and W&M are connected through history: on March 20, 1999, W&M hosted PSU in the first-ever game at Plumeri Park, a 16-10 Tribe victory. PSU did win the series, and the two teams have not played since. The Nittany Lions lead the all-time series 6-4.
