Baseball Hits the Road Tuesday at George Mason

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The William & Mary baseball will play their first road game of the season as they travel to George Mason for a Tuesday matinee. The game will get underway at 2 p.m. on ESPN+ from Spuhler Field in Fairfax, Va.

LAST TIME OUT
The Tribe cruised to a 15-4 win over Marist on Sunday to complete a series sweep. OF Christian Rush went .357 (5-for-14) in the series with five runs and four RBI, including a two-homer performance in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. It was Rush's second career multi-home run performance.

LATE-INNING MAGIC
OF Lucas Carmichael was the hero in Saturday's opener against Marist, delivering a walk-off RBI double to lift W&M to a 5-4 win. The Tribe won game two by a 9-6 final. In both contests, W&M erased a deficit of three-runs, outscoring Marist 12-2 from the sixth inning on. It was W&M's first walk-off victory nearly a year to the day since their last one on Feb. 23, 2024 against UMass Lowell.

BACK TO FORM
RHP Carter Lovasz returned to his old form, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings and tying a career-high with seven strikeouts on Saturday to earn the win. The Preseason All-CAA selection issued no walks and allowed three hits in 17 at-bats.

RHP Owen Pierce was also dominant in the nightcap, recording a nine-out save and striking out six.

CAN'T STOP KOSUDA
Freshman INF Matthew Kosuda continues to rake. Over the week, he hit .462 (6-for-13) with three doubles and four RBI. He went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the series finale against Marist. The Mountainside, N.J. has four doubles on the year, which ranks 33rd nationally and tied second-most among freshmen.

STAT NUGGETS
  • The Tribe leads the CAA in batting average (.329), slugging (.491), and runs (68).
  • RHP Reed Interdonato set a W&M career-best with seven strikeouts in his season debut on Saturday. He went four innings and yielded one run.
  • RHP Nick Lottchea tossed a career-high 3.2 frames in relief on Sunday with five strikeouts to earn the win.
  • UTL Derek Holmes has five hits and five RBI in his last two games.
  • W&M got their first series sweep since taking down Quinnipiac on March 15-17, 2024.
  • The Tribe broke up its streak of allowing its opponent to score first on Sunday with a run in the first inning. It was also the first time they prevented the opponent from scoring in the first.

SERIES HISTORY
The Tribe has dominated the season series against the Patriots as of late, winning 10 straight dating back to 2013. The last meeting was a 16-10 W&M victory in Fairfax in 2023. GMU does have the edge in the all-time series at 63-43, including 34-12 at home.
