WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary pitchers Carter Lovasz and Owen Pierce were named to the NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Stopper of the Year Award is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball. Lovasz had a stellar campaign in 2024, posting a 3.12 ERA with seven saves en route to a Second Team All-CAA selection. The senior right-hander from Midlothian, Va. held opponents to a .219 batting average and had a 57/13 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Pierce, a junior right-hander, pitched to the tune of a 3.77 ERA with five saves and a .224 opponents' batting average. The Chantilly, Va. native was named to the Midseason Watch List a season ago.

The Tribe was one of 15 programs with multiple pitchers selected to the list, and one of six programs outside the Power Four conferences.

The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, founded in 1962, presents numerous baseball awards, including Dick Howser Trophy to the nation's top player and the Mike Martin National Coach of the Year to the nation's top coach. It also selects All-America Teams for all Divisions, a Division I Freshman All-American team, Division I, II and III Players of the Week and Division I, II and III Players of the Year.
