WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary cornerback
Jalen Jones and linebacker
Luke Banbury added another national honor to their long list of postseason accolades, as both standouts were selected to the Phil Steele FCS All-America Team.
Jones earned first-team honors, while Banbury garnered second-team distinction.
The award marks the second consecutive season that Jones earned first-team All-America honors from the organization.
It is the fifth All-America accolade this season for Jones (AP, AFCA, Stats Perform, FCS Football Central) and the fourth for Banbury (AP, AFCA, Stats Perform).
In addition to Jones and Banbury, a trio of W&M standouts – defensive linemen
Justin Krueger (second team) and
Brady Echols (fourth team), as well as punter
Carter Boyd (fourth team) – were chosen to the Phil Steele FCS Freshman All-America Team.
A three-time first-team All-CAA selection and two-time Buck Buchanan Award Finalist, Jones ranked second in the CAA and 14th nationally with 1.09 passes defended per game in 2025. Additionally, the Chesapeake, Va., native ranked third in the CAA in interceptions (two) and PBU (10), while he finished the year with 39 tackles and 1.5 TFL en route to being chosen as the Defensive Back of the Year in Virginia by the Touchdown Club of Richmond.
Honored as a first-team All-America selection by six organizations last season, Jones ranks second in school history with 52 passes defended, which includes eight interceptions.
The former CAA Defensive Rookie of the Year (2022) was also a finalist for the 2022 Jerry Rice Award, which recognized the nation's top FCS freshman.
Banbury, also a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, made a tremendous impact during his lone campaign in Williamsburg after transferring from Cornell. In addition to ranking fourth nationally in tackles per game (11.4), he finished the season with 137 tackles – the most by a W&M player since 1988 (Kerry Gray, 143).
The Pittsburgh, Pa, native also totaled 2 sacks, 5.5 TFL, six PBU and a fumble recovery en route to garnering CAA Defensive Player of the Week accolades twice.
Banbury, who earned first-team Al-Ivy distinction last season and earned preseason All-America honors this year, finished his career with 278 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 13.5 TFL, two interceptions, 13 passes defended, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Krueger earned his third freshman All-America honor after leading the Tribe in TFL (8.0) and ranking third on the squad in tackles (52) during his rookie campaign. Additionally, the third-team All-CAA selection totaled 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and three PBU.
Echols started all 12 games during his redshirt freshman season and totaled 27 tackles with a TFL.
Boyd led the CAA by pinning opponents inside their own 20-yard line with 41.3 percent of his punts. Additionally, he pinned opponents inside their own 20-yard line 19 times, which was just one shy of tying for first in the CAA.
All five standouts played an integral role in helping W&M secure its fifth consecutive winning season in 2025, marking the program's longest stretch of winning seasons since the 1990s.
