WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After posting a tremendous performance in the William & Mary football team's victory against North Carolina A&T, linebacker
Luke Banbury was selected as the
CAA Defensive Player of the Week. The honor marks the second time this season Banbury has garnered the distinction.
En route to helping lead W&M to a 38-34 win versus the Aggies, Banbury recorded a career-high 17 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss and 2.0 sacks. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native's sack on 4th-and-goal from the 3-yard line with 2:49 remaining helped seal the victory. His effort helped W&M hold A&T scoreless during the final 20 minutes as the Tribe rallied back from a 13-point second half deficit.
Banbury currently ranks second nationally in total tackles (75) and solo tackles (44), while he is fifth in tackles per game (12.6).
After an open date this week, the Tribe will return to action when it hosts Elon for Homecoming at Zable Stadium on Oct. 18. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
