WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary football team earned an exciting 38-34 comeback victory against North Carolina A&T at Zable Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Although W&M (3-3, 2-1) trailed 34-21 late in the third quarter, it closed the game with 17 unanswered points to secure the conference victory on Family Weekend before a crowd of 12,783.
Rashad Raymond's 2-yard touchdown run with 11:15 remaining in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference, while linebacker
Luke Banbury sacked NC A&T's (1-5, 1-2) quarterback Kevin White on a fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line with 2:49 left to secure the thrilling win. The pivotal stop punctuated Banbury's career-high 17-tackle performance that included 2.0 sacks and 3.5 TFL.
While the Tribe trailed 24-14 at halftime, it opened the third quarter with a 75-yard touchdown pass from quarterback

NC A&T answered with a16-yard touchdown pass from White to Jayvonne Dillard and added a 42-yard field goal by Andrew Brown to pull back ahead 34-21 with 5:27 remaining in the third quarter. However, that would be the Aggies' final score, as Hughes scored on a 66-yard touchdown scamper on the ensuing drive, and a career-long 49-yard field goal by
Keegan Shackford with 2:00 left in the third quarter brought W&M within a field goal.
The Tribe's first half points came on a 4-yard scoop and score by linebacker

Stephon Hicks and a 29-yard touchdown pass from Hughes to tight end

Hughes finished with 157 passing yards and two touchdowns, while he also rushed for 88 yards on eight carries with a touchdown.
Raymond led the Tribe's rushing attack with 124 yards on 14 carries to go with his score.
McElwain totaled a team-high 73 yards on three catches with his touchdown, while Wright's 75-yard score was his only reception but led the team in receiving yardage.
In addition to Banbury's tremendous performance, linebacker
Harrison Johnson also came up big defensively with 12 tackles and a PBU while linebacker
Jorden McDonald added seven tackles with a sack and a forced fumble. Safety
Bryce Barnes also posted seven tackles and a forced fumble.
W&M outgained NC A&T, 405-382, which included a 238-157 advantage on the ground.
In addition to holding the Aggies scoreless in the fourth quarter, the Tribe's defense posted four sacks and forced a pair of turnovers.
Running back Wesley Graves led NC A&T with 93 rushing yards on 25 carries with a pair of scores, while White completed 20-of-28 passes for 225 yards and accounted for a touchdown through the air and on the ground.
After an open date next week, the Tribe will return to action when it hosts Elon for Homecoming at Zable Stadium on Oct. 18. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
