Men's Basketball Continues Long Island Swing at Stony Brook on Saturday

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – William & Mary men's basketball continues its Long Island road swing at Stony Brook on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for noon and the game televised on SNY and streamed on FloCollege.

Fans can follow the action over the Tribe Sports Network with Jay Colley on the call. Locally in Williamsburg, fans can listen in on The Tide 92.3 FM.

W&M News and Notes
 
- W&M looks for the program's 14th 2-0 start to a CAA campaign at Stony Brook on Saturday. The Tribe has opened league play with two-straight road wins on just two other occasions. W&M won its first two conference games on the road in 2019-20 and in 1982-83 when the Green and Gold went 9-0 in the ECAC South, which eventually became the CAA. The Tribe won its CAA opener at Hofstra, 74-56, on Thursday night, marking the program's ninth opening win in the last 13 years.
 
- The Tribe caught fire in the opening half at Hofstra on Thursday night, using a 46-8 extended run over a 14-minute stretch to pick up its first road win of the season. W&M connected on 16-of-22 from the floor, including 10-of-13 from 3 in opening up as much as a 30-point first-half lead on the way to victory.
 
- In five of the last six games, the Tribe has shot better than 50% from the floor. During that stretch, W&M is shooting 51.6% (189-of-366). On the year, the Green and Gold leads the CAA in field goal % (47.3). W&M also ranks among the national leaders in shooting. The Tribe leads the CAA and is 30th in the country in effective field goal % (56.8), which gives teams more credit for made 3-point field goals.
 
- The Tribe connected on double-digit 3-pointers in each of its last five games, averaging 13.2 per contest over the stretch. W&M has hit 10 or more 3-pointers in a game on nine occasions this season and is 7-2 in those contests. The Tribe is shooting 44.9% (66-of-147) from 3-point range over the last five contests, including hitting a season-high 18 3-pointers vs. VUL, the third most in school history.
 
- Brian Earl-coached teams are known among the fastest paced and highest scoring in the country. According to KenPom.com, W&M ranks 35th nationally in adjusted tempo (72.3) and 17th as well in shortest average possession length (15.3). The Tribe ranks 50th nationally in scoring at 82.6 points per game. In program history, the Tribe has averaged 80 or more points in just three seasons with a record of 85.0 in 2018.
 
- Senior forward Noah Collier has scored in double figures in nine of the last 10 games and leads the Tribe, while ranking 17th in the CAA, at 13.7 points per game. Earlier this season, he tallied a career-high 25 points at NC State. Collier is shooting 63.1% from the floor, which leads the CAA and ranks 17th nationally. He also leads the Tribe and ranks 14th in the CAA in rebounding (5.9).
 
- Three-point shooting has been a key piece of Earl's offenses, and W&M is one of the top teams in the country from distance this season. W&M ranks fifth nationally in % of field goal attempts coming from 3 (51.6%), fifth in 3-pointers made per game (11.5), 10th in 3-pointers attempted per game (31.4), and 13th in % of scoring from 3-pointers (40.8%).
 
- Freshman Isaiah Mbeng leads the team and ranks among the CAA leaders in assists, assist-to-turnover ratio, and steals. He is third in the league and 99th nationally with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.33. Mbeng is ninth in the CAA in steals (1.3) and 12th in assists (3.0).
 
- Sophomore guard Chase Lowe has come on strong, scoring in double figures in four of the last five games. During that stretch, he is averaging 11 points, seven rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, while shooting 60.7% from the field (17-of-28). Lowe ranks 19th in the CAA in assists and 24th in rebounding.
 
- Nearly half of W&M's points have come off the bench. The Tribe has scored 45.4% (525-of-1156) of its points off the bench and is averaging 37.5 points per game from its reserves, which ranks eighth nationally. W&M relies on its bench for significant minutes as well and ranks 16th nationally in % of minutes played off the bench (41.9%) according to KenPom.com.
 
- Over the last six contests, senior Gabe Dorsey, who was a Preseason All-CAA First Team choice, is 20-of-33 from 3-point range (60.6%). He is W&M's career leader in 3's per game (3.2) and moved up into fourth place on the Tribe's career 3-pointers list with 230. He is just 11 shy of third place. Dorsey currently ranks 56th nationally in 3-pointers made (2.93) and 65th in 3-point % (41.8).
 
- W&M is averaging 19.4 assists per game over the last six games. Overall, the Tribe leads the CAA in assists (17.4) and ranks second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.32). W&M ranks 29th nationally in assists. This season, the Green and Gold is 7-2 when it has a positive assist-to-turnover ratio.
 
 - A trio of former W&M players are currently on coaching staffs in the NBA. Jim Moran '01 is in his ninth season as an NBA assistant coach and first with the Sacramento Kings. Sean Sheldon '16 is in his third season as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz, while Daniel Dixon '17 is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Both Sheldon and Dixon served as their team's head coach during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
