Men's Basketball Opens CAA Slate at Hofstra on Thursday Night

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's basketball kicks off the CAA schedule at Hofstra on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game televised on MSG and streamed on FloCollege.

Fans can follow the action over the Tribe Sports Network with Jay Colley on the call. Locally in Williamsburg, fans can listen in on The Tide 92.3 FM.

W&M News and Notes
 
- W&M starts the CAA slate on the road for the fourth time in the last six years, and the Green and Gold opens league play vs. Hofstra for the third time in the last five years. The Tribe has won eight of its last 12 league openers and is 18-22 all-time in its first CAA games.
 
- Games between the Tribe and Pride have been close over the years with 16 of the last 31 meetings, dating back to 2010, being decided by six or fewer points, including 10 games decided by a single-possession.
 
- In four of the last five games, the Tribe has shot better than 50% from the floor. During that stretch, W&M is shooting 51.4% (162-of-315). On the year, the Green and Gold is second in the CAA in field goal % (47.0). W&M also ranks among the national leaders in shooting. The Tribe leads the CAA and is 44th in the country in effective field goal % (56.3), which gives teams more credit for made 3-point field goals. According to KenPom.com, W&M ranks 23rd nationally in 2-point %, shooting 58.8% inside the 3-point arc.
 
- The Tribe connected on double-digit 3-pointers in each of its last four games, averaging 13.5 per contest over the stretch. W&M has hit 10 or more 3-pointers in a game on eight occasions this season and is 6-2 in those contests. The Tribe is shooting 42.9% (54-of-126) from 3-point range over the last four contests, including hitting a season-high 18 3-pointers vs. VUL, the third most in school history.
 
- Brian Earl-coached teams are known among the fastest paced and highest scoring in the country. According to KenPom.com, W&M ranks 35th nationally in adjusted tempo (72.1) and 11th as well in shortest average possession length (15.2). The Tribe ranks 42nd nationally in scoring at 83.2 points per game. In program history, the Tribe has averaged 80 or more points in just three seasons with a record of 85.0 in 2018. Over his last three years at Cornell, Earl's teams ranked among the top 25 nationally in adjusted tempo and in the top 20 in scoring.
 
- Senior forward Noah Collier has scored in double figures in eight of the last nine games and leads the Tribe, while ranking 15th in the CAA, at 13.8 points per game. Earlier this season, he tallied a career-high 25 points at NC State. Collier is shooting 64% from the floor, which leads the CAA and ranks 15th nationally. He also leads the Tribe and ranks 17th in the CAA in rebounding (5.8).
 
- Three-point shooting has been a key piece of Earl's offenses, and W&M is one of the top teams in the country from distance this season. W&M ranks fourth nationally in % of field goal attempts coming from 3 (52.4%), sixth in 3-pointers made per game (11.5), seventh in 3-pointers attempted per game (32.2), and 17th in % of scoring from 3-pointers (40.2%). Earl's teams ranked among the top 10 nationally in 3-pointers made and attempted each of his last two years at Cornell.
 
- Sophomore guard Chase Lowe has come on strong at the end of nonconference play, scoring in double figures in three of the last four games. During that stretch, he is averaging 11 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, while shooting 59.1% from the field (13-of-22). Last time out, Lowe had 11 points to with team-highs of eight rebounds and five assists in a win over Navy.
 
- Nearly half of W&M's points have come off the bench. The Tribe has scored 44.9% (486-of-1082) of its points off the bench and is averaging 37.4 points per game from its reserves, which ranks eighth nationally. W&M relies on its bench for significant minutes as well and ranks 14th nationally in % of minutes played off the bench (42.6%) according to KenPom.com.
 
- Over the last five contests, senior Gabe Dorsey, who was a Preseason All-CAA First Team choice, is 17-of-28 from 3-point range (60.7%). He is W&M's career leader in 3's per game (3.2) and moved up into fourth place on the Tribe's career 3-pointers list with 227. He is just 14 shy of third place. Dorsey currently ranks 59th nationally in 3-pointers made (2.92) and 79th in 3-point % (40.9).
 
- After missing a month and eight games due to injury, senior Caleb Dorsey has made an impact since returning. He has scored in double figures in two of last three contests and was key in wins over Richmond (14 points) and Navy (11 points). Over the last three games, he has knocked down seven 3-pointers.
 
- W&M is averaging 20 assists per game over the last six games. Overall, the Tribe leads the CAA in assists (17.5) and ranks second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.33). W&M ranks 27th nationally in assists. This season, the Green and Gold is 6-2 when it has a positive assist-to-turnover ratio.
 
 - A trio of former W&M players are currently on coaching staffs in the NBA. Jim Moran '01 is in his ninth season as an NBA assistant coach and first with the Sacramento Kings. Sean Sheldon '16 is in his third season as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz, while Daniel Dixon '17 is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Both Sheldon and Dixon served as their team's head coach during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
