WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team will open its conference slate when it plays at Hofstra and Monmouth this weekend.
The Tribe will square off against the Pride on Friday at 5 p.m., before playing the Hawks on Sunday at 1 p.m.

A Look at the Tribe
W&M enters its CAA slate after posting a 4-5 record against its non-conference opponents. Three of the four setbacks came against nationally ranked foes.
Paige Gilbert leads the team with 19 points (17g, 2a), while she has also totaled 27 draw controls.
Kate Draddy has also come up big with a team-high 40 draw controls to go with 18 points (10g, 8a) and 19 ground balls.
Scouting Hofstra
Hofstra currently owns a 4-4 overall record and opened its league slate with a 13-10 win against Campbell last weekend. Taylor Mennella (19g, 10a) and Melissa Sconone (18g, 11a) lead the team with 29 points apiece, while Kerry Walser has recorded 18 points (15g, 3a), 29 draw controls and 16 ground balls.
Scouting Monmouth
Monmouth enters the weekend with a 4-4 overall record and lost its CAA opener at Elon, 16-13, last Saturday. Caroline Brennan leads the team with 30 points (26g, 4a), while Mya Brock has totaled 25 points (15g, 10). Danielle McNeely has also provided significant production with 21 points (13g, 8a), 24 draw controls and 18 ground balls.

W&M-Hofstra All-Time Series
Hofstra controls the all-time series, 14-8, and has won seven of the last eight matchups. Five of the last 10 games have been decided by just one goal, which includes four overtime contests. The programs first met in 1978 – an 18-0 W&M victory.
Last Meeting vs. Hofstra
W&M opened its 2023 CAA slate with a thrilling 13-12 victory against Hofstra at Martin Family Stadium. Although Hofstra owned a narrow 2-1 edge late in the first quarter, W&M broke the game open with an 8-0 run to lead 9-2 midway through the second frame. The Pride responded with three unanswered goals, but W&M found the cage twice in the final minute of the second quarter to lead 11-5 at halftime. Hofstra closed the contest with six of the final seven goals to narrow the gap to just one in the final minute, but after securing the final draw control with less than 30 seconds remaining it was unable to put a shot on frame.
London Simonides equaled a career high with six points (3g, 3a), while
Kate Draddy,
Sydney Witwer and
Maresa Moyer all scored two goals apiece.
W&M-Monmouth All-Time Series
W&M and Monmouth have met just once, as last season the Hawks earned a 14-9 win in West Long Branch, N.J.
Last Meeting vs. Monmouth
W&M concluded its 2023 road slate with a 14-9 setback at Monmouth. After trailing by as many as seven, 10-3, midway through the third quarter, W&M charged back with an impressive 6-2 run that narrowed the margin to just three with 5:25 remaining. However, Monmouth held the Tribe scoreless during the final stretch to preserve the conference victory. The Hawks scored the contest's first four goals and then utilized a 6-1 run that bridged the second and third quarters to build the seven-goal lead.
Justyce Barber led the Tribe with three goals – all of which came during the 6-2 run late in the contest that narrowed the margin to just three.
Last Time Out
W&M concluded its non-conference slate with a thrilling 13-12 victory against Longwood at Martin Family Stadium last Sunday. The contest was knotted at 9-9 late in the third quarter, but W&M pulled ahead with four unanswered goals to build a comfortable advantage with 11:04 remaining. Longwood held W&M scoreless the rest of the way, however, and gradually chipped away at the margin before a goal by Riley McDonald with 3:09 cut the lead to just one. Marin Wilhelm saved a free position attempt by Mikaela Cook with 35 seconds remaining and Ariana Tucci's shot as time expired hit the dirt and bounced wide of the goal.
Kate Draddy led W&M with a hat trick, five draw controls, four ground balls and a caused turnover, while
Finley Hoffman added three points (2g, 1a) and two ground balls.

During the last two seasons, W&M has posted a 6-1 record in games decided by just one goal.
Overtime Success
With the 12-11 victory at George Washington earlier this season, W&M has won four of its last five overtime games dating back to 2019.
Record Watch
One of the most successful goalies in school history,
Elise Palmer is ranked seventh in school history in career saves (332). She needs 54 more saves to pass Carlen Sellers for sixth on the all-time list.
Caroline Hertzberg currently ranks 10th all-time at W&M in draw controls (104), while her 51 career caused turnovers is just one shy of moving into the program's all-time top-10 list.
Courtney Vasquenza is also closing in on W&M's top-10 list for caused turnovers with 39.
