Field Hockey Returns to CAA Play at Delaware Before Hosting #4 Duke

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary field hockey continues CAA action with a road trip to Delaware on Friday, before hosting No. 4-ranked Duke on Sunday.

The contest with the Blue Hens pits two of the preseason top-three teams in the CAA and is slated for a 5 p.m. start. W&M's home contest with the Blue Devils is its third against the ACC this season and second at home. The match is slated for a noon start time. Both games will be broadcast on FloLive.

The Blue Hens, which sit at 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the CAA, are coming off a pair of setbacks last week, including its first CAA loss at home against Monmouth, 2-1. Duke, who is 8-1 on the year, is coming off two double OT wins on the road last week at Boston College (2-1) and Harvard (3-2).

Clear Bag Policy
William & Mary Athletics, in conjunction with the William & Mary Police Department, has implemented a clear bag policy that regulates the size and type of bag that may be carried into W&M Athletics facilities during the 2023-24 year, including Busch Field, Kaplan Arena, Martin Family Stadium, Plumeri Park, and Zable Stadium. Information as well as approved and prohibited items is available at TribeAtheltics.com.

Tribe News and Notes
- The Tribe (3-4) improved to 2-0 in CAA play with a 2-1 win over Northeastern at home on Sept. 22. W&M is tied at the top of the CAA standings with Monmouth. It marks the fifth time in the last seven years that the Tribe started league play at 2-0. The Green and Gold started 3-0 in CAA play in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

- Graduate defender Audrey Domovich scored both Tribe goals off penalty corners in the 2-1 win over Northeastern. It marked her first career two-goal game and her first career game-winning goal. The Tribe has three games this season with a player scoring two goals after junior Pyper Friedman did it against then-No. 12 Wake Forest and Towson.

- Delaware, who spent time in the top 20 this season, leads the all-time series with the Tribe at 22-10, including a 3-2 win in Williamsburg last season. W&M will look for its first win in Newark since winning the CAA Championship match in 2018.

- Last season, the Tribe upset No. 16 Duke, 2-1, in Durham on goals from Lauren Curran and Allison Goodwin. The Blue Devils lead the all-time series at 29-9-1.

- Junior midfielder Pyper Friedman was named the CAA Player of the Week for the second time on Sept. 18 behind two goals, including the game-winner, at Towson. She also earned player of the week honors after scoring both Tribe goals in a 2-1 upset of then-No. 12 Wake Forest on Sept. 1. They were first two-goal games of Friedman's career. She lead W&M and ranks sixth in the CAA with four goals on the year.

- Graduate student Lauren Curran, who was an All-CAA First Team selection last season, ranks second on the team with five points on two goals and an assist. For her career, Curran has 22 goals, which ranks 21st in program history. With her next goal, she will move into the program's top 20. Her goals per game mark of 0.53 is seventh in school history.

- The Tribe's 2-1 win over then-No. 12-ranked Wake Forest was the Tribe's 12th under head coach Tess Ellis against Top-20 opponents, including the fourth over the ACC. Last season, W&M topped three top-20 opponents, including No. 6-ranked Liberty. The last time W&M won two matches against ACC competition in the same season was 2001.

- The Tribe had four players honored by the CAA during the preseason. Senior Jayden Moon, who had a goal and an assist in the season-opener against JMU, and Friedman were among 12 players named to the Preseason All-CAA Team, while senior goalkeeper Maddie George and Curran earned honorable mention honors. As a team, W&M was picked third in the preseason CAA poll by vote of the league coaches.

- In January, Moon and Friedman were named to the 2023 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team and invited to attend the Junior Pan American Championship (JPAC) Selection Camp. Moon was named a reserve for the JPAC team. Friedman has become a fixture on the USA Field Hockey scene early in her collegiate career after playing for the U-21 U.S. Women's National Team in the Uniphar 5-Nations Tournament in Dublin, Ireland, in June of 2022.
