Cantby Clinches First at Denmark National Championships

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Liv Cantby's summer plans include: soaking up some sun, traveling home to Denmark, and taking first in the women's javelin throw at the DM Senior event, the country's national championship, earlier this month. For good measure, she also broke her own William & Mary school record in the event.

Cantby posted a distance of 47.82m (156-10.5) on her second throw  to capture the crown while competing at the Skovdalen Atletikstadion in Aalborg, Denmark. The performance easily topped Cantby's previous record-setting mark for the Tribe, 45.80m, which she set at this year's ECAC Championships, and was a dominant showing against her fellow Danish athletes. Her closest competitor posted a throw of 43.97m to finish in second place.

This wasn't Cantby's first foray into international competition this summer, either. On June 20, she represented the Danish National Team at the European Team Championships in Chrozow, Poland, finishing 14th in the javelin at  44.14m.

Making her debut with the Green and Gold this season, Cantby was nothing short of incredible all spring. She took third at the CAA Championships, clinched gold at the ECAC Championships, and notched a top-20 finish in the NCAA East First Round—her third straight prelims appearance after qualifying as a freshman and sophomore while at UT-Arlington. At the time, her throw of 46.47m (152-5) was the third-best in W&M history.
