Delossantos' Homer Sparks Comeback As Lovasz Dominates in Win

Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - A Joe Delossantos solo homer out of Plumeri Park and into Martin Family Stadium in the third inning started an epic comeback as William & Mary defeated Northeastern 8-5 Saturday afternoon in Williamsburg. On senior day, soon to be graduate Delossantos scored a pair of runs and shifted momentum as the Tribe trailed 4-0 early.

Fellow seniors Ben Williamson and Max Winters also shined as the former was 3-5 with a pair of runs driven in, and the latter was 1-3, also with a pair of RBI. Tank Yaghoubi turned in a 3-3 day and Luca Danos had a pair of knocks.

Carter Lovasz was phenomenal, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings in relief to pick up his fifth win of the season. Lovasz allowed just three hits and struck out four, while fellow sophomore Mike Weidinger was also strong out of the pen, not allowing a hit and striking out three over 1.1 innings.

For the second straight game Northeastern struck first. After Green held the Huskies in check for two innings, Mike Sirota shot a solo homer to break a 0-0 tie. Moments later, Tyler MacGregor hit a solo shot of his own to give the visitors a 2-0 edge. Northeastern's third homer of the inning came as Cam Maldonado hit a two-run shot making it 4-0.

The Tribe would get a run back in the bottom half of the third as Danos would double and score on a double from Williamson. After a one, two, three inning from Weidinger, William & Mary found the scoreboard again as Delossantos rocked the first pitch of the inning over the scoreboard in left. Yaghoubi followed with his second single of the afternoon and scored on a Winters double to bring the Tribe within one.

Northeastern would lead off the fifth with a hit batsmen and he would come around to score on an infield hit. Lovasz would shut out the Huskies for a pair of frames, before William & Mary stormed back in the bottom of the seventh. Delosantos would plate a man on a fielder's choice and Yaghoubi's bases-loaded walk would tie the game. Moments later, Winters would lift a sac fly to deep center giving the Tribe the lead and Delossantos would come around on a wild pitch to make it 7-5.

A walk and an error would put a pair of men on for Northeastern in the eighth, but Lovasz would retire the next three men to keep the Huskies off the scoreboard. The Tribe tacked on in the eighth as Williamson singled in Carmichael with his third hit of the afternoon to give the Tribe an 8-5 lead.

Northeastern loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but Lovasz was able to shut the door to preserve the 8-5 William & Mary win. The two teams will meet Sunday afternoon for the series' rubber match.
