Box Score GREENSBORO, NC- William & Mary dropped a 7-3 decision to North Carolina A&T Sunday afternoon in Greensboro. Three-run innings from the Aggies in the fifth and sixth were the difference in the game.
Tribe starter
Owen Pierce was strong, scattering three hits and one walk over 4.1 innings pitched. The freshman allowed one run and struck out two in the no-decision.
Tom Mayer picked up the loss, allowing just one earned run over the game's final 3.0 innings.
It was a stalemate at 0-0 entering the fifth inning, when the Aggies finally got to the Tribe pitching staff. A single, hit by a pitch, and a three-run homer would put NC A&T up 3-0 at the game's midpoint.
William & Mary immediately responded in the sixth as
Ben Williamson led off the frame with a double and
Nate Goranson would reach on a catcher's interference call. Both Williamson and Goranson scored as
Joe Delossantos lifted a double into left. Delossantos scored on a sac fly from
Lucas Carmichael to tie the game at 3-3.
North Carolina A&T struck back with three unearned runs in the bottom half of the sixth. All three runs came with two outs and the inning was punctuated by a two-run homer for the Aggies, making it 6-3. A solo shot from Maynor in the eighth would give A&T the four run edge.
