Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- Down to its last strike and trailing by one in the ninth, William & Mary rallied to tie the game before winning it with a pair of outs in the tenth to defeat Elon 6-5 Friday night.
Luca Danos singled with a pair of outs in the ninth and scored on a
Lucas Carmichael double down the left field line in the ninth. In the tenth, the Tribe took advantage of an Elon error to score
Tank Yaghoubi and secure the win.
Rojo Prarie earned the win, allowing zero runs and zero hits over 4.0 innings. Prairie only allowed two base runners and recorded five punchouts. Starter
Owen Pierce struck out four, scattering three hits in 3.0 innings, while
Tom Mayer struck out three and allowed a pair of runs in relief.
Ben Williamson was 2-4 with a two-run homer, his eighth of the season. Carmichael and Yaghoubi each scored a pair of runs, while Danos drove in a man and had a pair of hits.
William & Mary got on board in the first as
Max Winters two-out single scored Carmichael to give the Tribe an early 1-0 lead. Elon rallied to take the lead, scoring three runs on four hits in the top half of the third.
With one down in the Tribe half of the third, Carmichael drew a one out walk and was on board when Williamson sent a fastball deep into the night sky and over the wall in right center to tie the game at 3-3.
The Tribe regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth as Danos delivered a two-out RBI single to plate Yaghoubi, making it 4-3. The lead would not last long as Elon led off the fifth with three straight hits and a wild pitch to score two and edge ahead 5-4 before Mayer rallied to strike the next three batters out.
Both bullpens were tight down the stretch before the Tribe finally broke through in the ninth, and again in the tenth after Prarie stranded the go-ahead run at third in the Elon half of the tenth.
