RICHMOND, Va. – Three must be
Riley Casey's favorite number.
One of the top 3-point shooters in the nation, on Monday, the graduate guard was also named the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week. It marked the third time this season Casey has captured the conference honor.
As has become tradition for her this year, Casey put on an offensive showcase in last week's games. She averaged 22.5 points and dished out five assists per contest, lifting William & Mary to back-to-back victories and helping the Tribe match a program record with 12 CAA wins.
Against Monmouth, Casey scored a career-high 33 points while also adding six assists and two steals. The points outburst tied fellow backcourt standout
Sydney Wagner for the highest-scoring performance by a Tribe player this season. It was also the sixth 30-plus performance Casey has notched in 2022-2023 and the seventh of her career—both Green and Gold records.
For her follow-up in Saturday's regular-season finale against Hofstra, Casey didn't miss a step. She finished with 18 points, four assists, and one steal in a 69-50 victory; the tenth straight game she's hit double-digits. The performance also gave Casey 535 points in 29 games, tying her with Lynn Norenberg for No. 2 on the Tribe's all-time single-season scoring list. Casey finished the regular season second in the CAA in scoring at 18.4 points per game, second in 3-pointers per game (2.8), and third in 3-point percentage (.381). Nationally, she sits 18th in 3-pointers per game and is 23rd in total 3-pointers this season (82).
William & Mary now turns its attention to the CAA Women's Basketball Championship presented by Primis. The Tribe
clinched the No. 4 seed and will take on the winner of No. 5 N.C. A&T vs. No. 12 Hofstra/No. 13 UNCW, on Friday, March 10 at 2:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FloHoops, but W&M fans looking to be in the building can purchase a limited number of ticket books, which provide admission to all tournament games, through the
Tribe Athletics Ticket Office.
