Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, VA. -
Joe Delossantos went 4-4 with a pair of runs scored and a two-run homer to help push the Tribe past Monmouth 8-3 Friday at Plumeri Park.
Ben Williamson and
Max Winters also contributed multi-hit games and
Corey Adams walked twice and scored twice.
Nate Knowles picked up his second win on the season allowing one run on just one hit over 3.0 innings.
Carter Lovasz picked up his second save of the year allowing a single run over the final three frames.
Zach Tsakounis worked the middle three innings and struck out four without allowing an earned run to cross.
It was three freshmen that helped the offense going for the Tribe in the second as
Tank Yaghoubi and Adams singled, followed by a Jerry Barnes walk to load the bases. Yaghoubi scored on a
Luca Danos fielder's choice.
Adams came around on a
Lucas Carmichael double and Danos scored on an RBI groundout from Williamson. Back to back RBI singles with two outs from Winters and
Nate Goranson would make it a 5-0 game.
The Hawks benefited from a pair of free passes to push a run across in the top of the third. Danos would get the run back for the Green and Gold with a sac fly to deep left in the bottom half of the frame.
Monmouth made it a 6-2 game after plating an unearned run in the top half of the fifth and the teams would trade scoreless frames until Delossantos two run blast in the bottom of the eighth. The Hawks pushed a run across in the ninth to make it 8-3 but Lovasz would retire the side and preserve the win.
