Box Score HEMPSTEAD, NY- William & Mary dropped the final game of a three-game set to Hofstra 4-3 Sunday afternoon in Hempstead. The Tribe led 3-0 early, but the Pride scored one in the fourth and three in the seventh to avoid the sweep.
Ben Williamson was 3-4 on the day with a run scored and an RBI single, while
Luca Danos scored and had a pair of hits.
Max Winters knocked in a pair of runs in the Tribe's three-run third inning.
Garrett Newsome tossed the first 1.1 innings, holding the Pride scoreless, while
Tom Mayer struck out a pair allowing just one run over the next 3.2 innings.
Nate Knowles was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs to Hofstra in the seventh.
The Tribe got on the board first as Williamson singled in Danos to break the 0-0 tie in the third. Two batters later, Winters singled to score Williamson and
Joe Delossantos to open a 3-0 lead.
A lead off double would come around to score for Hofstra in the fourth, and two two-out hits would score three runs for the Pride in the seventh, giving the home side a 4-3 advantage. William & Mary would have runners on base in the eighth and the ninth but could not push the tying run across.
Despite the loss, William & Mary was able to take two of three from the Pride on the weekend, and won three of five games on the week. The loss dropped the Tribe to 11-10 overall and 3-3 in CAA action.
Up Next: The Tribe will be back in action Tuesday for midweek action at George Mason before hosting CAA newcomer Monmouth for a weekend series beginning Friday at Plumeri Park.
