Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- Back to back singles from
Jerry Barnes III and
Nick Lottchea produced a pair of runs for the Tribe as William & Mary walked off George Mason 4-3 Tuesday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
Noah Zertuche scored the winning run while
Cole Ragone walked in the pivotal ninth inning and had three hits in the game.
Cory Wall picked up his second win of the season, allowing one run and striking out a pair over the final 3.0 innings of the game.
Tom Mayer allowed one earned run, while
Zach Tsakounis was excellent, allowing just one hit and no runs over his three innings pitched.
George Mason took advantage of a single, two passed balls, and a fielder's choice to plate an unearned run in the first. The Tribe would even the game at 1-1 as
Nate Goranson hit a sac fly to deep right, plating
Lucas Carmichael.
The Patriots would take the lead once again using a pair of singles through the right side to score a run in the third. For the second time, William & Mary would level the score, this time via a clutch two-out RBI single from Ragone to score
Ben Williamson in the fourth.
The teams traded four scoreless frames before George Mason took the lead in the ninth. James Quinn-Irons singled with two outs and stole second before coming home via a Evan Blanchard single to shallow center.
Goranson and Ragone would grind out back to back walks before Barnes' pinch hit single tied the game. Lottchea then sent the Tribe fans home happy, smacking the first pitch up the middle and Zertuche was just ahead of the throw from Mason's Derek Wood.
Up Next: The Tribe is back in action tomorrow afternoon as the team heads to Norfolk to take on Old Dominion. First pitch from ODU is set for a 3:00 p.m. start time.
