Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- A six-run second inning and strong pitching led the Tribe to a 8-2 win over Richmond in Tuesday's home-opener at Plumeri Park.
Lucas Carmichael led the way offensively with a career-high three hits and also scored a pair of runs.
Ben Williamson also had a pair of hits in the game and drove in one.
Brian Craven earned his first win in Green and Gold as the William & Mary pitching staff did not surrender an earned run all afternoon. Craven struck out a pair and allowed just two hits over his 3.0 innings.
Nick Lottchea took the middle frames and punched out one, while
Carter Lovasz earned the nine-out save striking out the final three batters of the game.
Two Spiders were hit by pitches to lead off the game and would later come around on an error to plate two unearned runs. Craven retired the visitors easily in the second and the Tribe lineup would answer with the breakout inning in the bottom half.
Carmichael led off the big inning with a single through the left side and would move to third after walks to
Charlie Iriotakis and
Nate Goranson. Carmichael and Iriotakis scored on a wild pitch and Goranson took home on a fielder's choice. Cory Adams scored on a
Joe Delossantos single,
Luca Danos would take home on a double-steal and Delossantos came home on a Williamson double to deep right center.
The Tribe added on in the fifth as Carmichael laced a leadoff double down the line in left and would score on an Iriotakis single into center making it a 7-2 game. The Green and Gold would get on the scoreboard once again in the eighth thanks to a triple from Goranson and an RBI single from Adams.
