Field Hockey Jumps into NFHCA National Rankings at No. 21

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Coming off three overtime wins and a pair of nationally-ranked victories, William & Mary field hockey entered the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Coaches Poll on Tuesday. The Tribe jumped to No. 21 in the country after not being ranked in the preseason.

The Green and Gold moved into the national rankings for the first time since 2019 and the No. 21 spot in the program's highest since 2017. W&M is the highest ranked CAA program in the poll coming in ahead of No. 24 Delaware and No. 25 Monmouth.

The Tribe (3-1) picked up a thrilling 1-0 overtime win at then-No. 6 Liberty on Sunday. The Flames were the NCAA National Runner-up last season and entered the game leading the country in scoring at 5.5 goals per game. W&M also knocked off Old Dominion, 3-2, in double OT earlier this season. The Monarchs have won three in a row since and moved up to No. 14 in the national rankings.

W&M has six matches remaining on its schedule against nationally-ranked opponents. W&M hosts No. 10 UConn (Sept. 18) and No. 24 Delaware (Oct. 7), while traveling to No. 9 Virginia (Oct. 2),  No. 16 Duke (Sept. 11), No. 23 American (Oct. 29) and No. 25 Monmouth (Sept. 30).

The Tribe returns to action with a trip to the state of North Carolina this week. W&M heads to Davidson on Friday, Sept. 9, for a 6 p.m. match. The Tribe wraps up the trip at No. 16 Duke on Sunday, Sept. 11. That contest carries a 1 p.m. start time and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
