RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary field hockey junior
Maddie George was named the Colonial Athletic Association co-Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
It marks the second-straight week that a Tribe student-athlete was honored after Sally Seand earned the accolade following W&M's wins over No. 19 Old Dominion and VCU last week. George shared the honor with Monmouth's Aylin Aufenacker, who scored two goals in a win over Delaware.
George posted 20 saves in a save % of 87 in two matches this week. Most notably, the Tribe goalkeeper headlined a stout defensive performance in W&M's 1-0 shutout of No. 6-ranked Liberty. George posted a career-high 12 saves, the most for a Tribe goalkeeper since 2018, in recording her second clean sheet of the season, this one against the nation's top scoring offense. She made 10 saves in the second half and overtime, including four in the extra session.
On the year, George leads the CAA in goals against average (1.12), saves (31), save % (86.1) and shutouts (2).
George and the Tribe returns to action with a trip to the state of North Carolina this week. W&M heads to Davidson on Friday, Sept. 9, for a 6 p.m. match. The Tribe wraps up the trip at No. 18 Duke on Sunday, Sept. 11. That contest carries a 1 p.m. start time and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
