Field Hockey Climbs Five Spots in National Rankings

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – William & Mary field hockey climbed five spots in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Coaches Poll on Tuesday, moving up to the No. 16 spot.
 
The Tribe entered the rankings last week at No. 21 and have ascended to the program's highest national ranking since being No. 15 in 2004.
 
Last week, W&M ran its win streak to three and picked up the program's third win over a nationally-ranked opponent. After a 2-0 win over Davidson on Sept. 9, the Tribe picked up its first win over No. 16 Duke since 2001 thanks to a 2-1 triumph on Sunday in Durham. The Tribe also owns wins over 2021 national runner-up and then-No. 6 Liberty as well as No. 14 Old Dominion.
 
Sitting at 5-1 on the year, the Tribe will face a pair of nationally-ranked opponent this weekend. W&M travels to No. 25 James Madison on Friday, Sept. 16, before playing host to No. 11 UConn on Sunday. The Tribe-Dukes match-up will be streamed on ESPN+ at 6 p.m. on Friday. Sunday's nationally-ranked tilt with the Huskies carries an 11 a.m. start time and will be broadcast on FloLive.
