RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary field hockey senior
Lauren Curran was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. It marked the third-straight week a Tribe player took home the league's top honor.
Curran scored three goals in the Tribe's 2-0 trip to the state of North Carolina. She scored twice in the fourth quarter to lift W&M to a 2-0 win at Davidson on Sept. 9. Curran scored the equalizer in the Tribe's eventual 2-1 win over No. 16 Duke on Sunday. It was the program's first win over the Blue Devils since 2001.
Curran joined senior
Sally Snead (Aug. 29) and junior
Maddie George (Sept. 5) in earning the CAA Player of the Week honor this season. Curran leads the Tribe and the CAA in scoring with 10 points on five goals, including the game-winner vs. the Wildcats. As a team, the Tribe owns three wins over national top-20 opponents, its most since the 2004 season.
W&M is off to a 5-1 start for the first time since 2017 and should see its national ranking improve from No. 21 on Tuesday. The Tribe is back in action at James Madison on Friday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. W&M returns home for a match-up with No. 10-ranked UConn on Sunday, Sept. 18, at noon.
