Sarah Callender produced her first-career double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs, but it was not enough as Ball State defeated William & Mary 3-1 Saturday morning in Tampa.
Nicole Smith added nine kills on a .320 hitting percentage, while
Anna Porter had a game-high 18 digs.
Emma Minnick had 18 assists and
Amy Schwem added 16.
In the opening frame, Ferguson continued to shine with five kills and Callender had three kills on just five attempts. Schwem and Minnick each dished out six assists, but Ball State separated late for a 25-18 win.
Kills from Callender and Smith and then a block from Smith and
Sabrina Malcolm gave the Tribe a quick 3-0 lead to begin the second. William & Mary would push the lead to seven at 12-5 and then hold off a six point run from Ball State on the way to a 25-21 second set win.
Ball State got off to a quick start in the third set and cruised to a 25-13 win to make it a 2-1 lead for the Cardinals.
Eleanor Stothoff would come on for four kills in the fourth set, but William & Mary would drop the final set to Ball State.
Next weekend the Tribe will be back in action with a trio of matches in Pittsburgh. The Green and Gold will face Duquesne and Robert Morris on Friday before taking on Canisius Saturday.
