NORMAN, Okla. — William & Mary men's golf was recently honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America for its success in the classroom during the 2021-22 season. Senior
Matthew Feinstein and junior
Trevor Binau earned Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors, while the team received the Presidents Special Recognition from the GCAA for the third season in a row.
Both Feinstein and Binau garnered the All-America Scholar honor for the second-straight year. To be eligible for the accolades, an individual must - 1) be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I; 2) have participated in 50% of their team's competitive rounds with a stroke average under 76.0; 3) maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2; and 4) be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university. The duo was among 447 NCAA Division I athletes from 158 schools to be honored.
Binau ranked second on the team in stroke average at 75.41 during the 2021-22 season and was third in total wins (379). He capped his junior campaign with a top-10 performance at the CAA Championship. Feinstein led the Tribe in winning % (65.8) to go with three top-10 efforts and a pair of top-5s. He was third on the team at 75.24 strokes per round and turned in his best performance, finishing fourth at the Howard Bison Invitational.
Programs receiving the President's Special Recognition achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better. The Tribe was one of 36 DI schools nationally to be honored with the award. The Green and Gold posted a 3.61 cumulative GPA. It marks the fourth time in the last six years that W&M received the President's Special Recognition for its academic prowess.
The Tribe's 297.78 stroke average ranked 10th in program history. W&M posted a trio of top-3 performances at the VCU Shootout, Howard Bison Invitational, and Lehigh Invitational. During the VCU Shootout, the Green and Gold established a new school record with a 54-hole total of 14-under par 850.
Established in 1958, GCAA is the professional organization of golf coaches. The GCAA's mission is to support its member coaches by creating educational opportunities, providing resources, and promoting its members with the purpose of enhancing their overall performance as coaches, mentors, and teachers. The GCAA also recognizes the excellence and achievements of its members and their student-athletes in academic, athletic and civic endeavors.
