Chris Arias Qualifies for NCAA Eastern Preliminaries

BLOOMINGTON, IN - Redshirt freshman Chris Arias earned selection for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Regional, announced by the Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee Thursday afternoon. The Redbank N.J., native, will compete in the javelin on Wednesday, May 25, in the first round of the Eastern Preliminaries hosted by the Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
 
Qualifying for the NCAA first round for the second year in a row, Arias ranked 22nd in the javelin. At the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Championships Arias was named Most Outstanding Field Athlete of the Championships after his winning performance in the javelin with a mark of 65.20m. Arias set a career-best in the event at the Virginia Challenge throwing 68.35m. His mark ranks as the 16th best in W&M history. Arias also competed in the NCAA East Preliminary round in the Javelin throw in 2021.

This is the 19th year in a row that W&M has qualified an athlete for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The qualifiers of the  Eastern Preliminaries will advance to the NCAA Finals, June 8, in Eugene, Ore.
