Baseball Welcomes VCU for Midweek Action

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - William & Mary baseball is back in action this Tuesday for a midweek game with VCU. The Tribe and the Rams will get together for a 5:00 p.m. start time at Plumeri Park.

The Green and Gold enter the week on a high after a 3-1 run last week that included a victory at Duke and a series win over UNCW. The Tribe has won six of its last seven ball games. VCU is 12-10 on the season and coming off a 1-2 weekend at ECU.

Big innings boosted the Tribe offense this past week as the Green and Gold jumped on Duke for eight in the second frame in what would become a 14-3 win. On Friday, the Tribe scored six in the fourth and five in the fifth to surge ahead of UNCW, and McRae's team put up six in the eighth inning in Sunday's comeback win over the Seahawks.

Big innings late in games has been a theme for William & Mary this season, as the Tribe is outscoring opponents 58-23 in the final three innings this season. William & Mary has a 29-9 scoring advantage over the opposition in the eighth inning.

Cole Ragone is coming off a memorable week that earned the senior CAA Player of the Week honors. Ragone hit three solo homers and drove in five runs over the four game stretch. The infielder had a homer and at least two hits in each of the Tribe's wins over the past week and five of his seven hits went for extra bases. Ragone is second in the league in slugging and fourth in batting average, while his 40 total bases paces the Tribe.

A pair of bullpen lefties in Matt Howat and Adam Fischer lead the Tribe with eight appearances on the season. Howat was fantastic in Friday's win tossing a season-high 3.1 innings without allowing a run to pick up the victory.

Fischer has kept the opposition off the board in seven of his eight outings and has struck out 17 men in just 10.0 innings pitched. The lefty has allowed just three extra base hits on the season.
