The contest will be W&M's
"Be The Match" game, which hopes to educate and inspire others to save lives by joining the National Marrow Donor Program.
Saturday will also mark 20 years since 9/11, and W&M will honor all those affected by the tragic events of that day and the heroic first responders who sacrificed in the service of others.
W&M will look to bounce back after suffering a 43-0 setback at Virginia in its season opener last weekend. The Tribe was without three starters on the offensive side of the ball, however, as its starting quarterback, running back and left tackle were all sidelined. Darius Wilson was among those who stepped into a starting role, as he became just the fourth true freshman to start at quarterback in school history and just the second to start a season opener. Defensively, W&M posted three sacks and six TFL.
Lafayette opened its season with a 35-14 loss at Air Force last Saturday. The Falcons piled up 370 rushing yards en route to out-gaining the Leopards, 420-287. Aaron Angelos and Rent Montie split snaps at quarterback and combined to complete 17 of 28 passes for 245 yards. Wideout Julius Young assisted with much of that production, totaling eight catches for 147 yards with a touchdown.
Saturday's home opener between W&M and Lafayette will mark just the sixth meeting between the two programs. Although the Leopards won the initial matchup, 17-14, in 2012, W&M has claimed the last four meetings. Prior to the teams' initial meeting in 2012, W&M and Lafayette had combined to play 2,363 games but had never met. Lafayette began playing football in 1882 and claimed national championships in 1896, 1921 and 1926, while W&M fielded its first team in 1893.
